Chag ha-Shavuot

Chag ha-Shavuot is the second of the three annual chagim (Pilgrimage Festivals) in the Hebrew Calendar. In English Shavuot is known as the Feast of Weeks or Pentecost. Shavuot is the only one of the chagim in the Tanakh not given a fixed calendar date. Instead, we are commanded to celebrate this chag at the end of a 50-day period known as the Counting of the Omer. Becky Sebo's Student Research Project 2012 presented at the Student Expo at Ohio University. Objective: To study how culture influences choreography and then create a dance piece influenced by my own culture. Significance of my piece: My culture influenced me to create a piece based on how I live through my Judaism. Different motifs within my movement represent the ideas that I have grown up with and what ideas I chose to stay with. This piece is about me externalizing my internal beliefs, and determining for myself what religious and cultural ideas are most important to me.
